About Me

Hey, I'm Spencer. I'm a software engineer based in the Bay Area. I'm now 22 years old, working at RV Tech in Palo Alto with a Masters in Computer Science from RIT. I spend my time reading sci-fi and magic-based fantasy books, rock climbing, playing volleyball, hiking, and camping.

Background

I grew up in Sanford, Florida, with an older sibling and my two parents. I played volleyball throughout high school, ending as captain of Varsity as a setter, with a year on WPVC as libero. I bowled as well, being Varsity captain my senior year. In high school, I really pushed myself academically. I took as many Advanced Placement and Dual Enrollment classes as I could. This led to me having over 60 college credits by the time I graduated, though they were mostly wasted by my college.

Education

I chose to go to college in upstate New York, at Rochester Institute of Technology. My first year, I was a Computer Exploration major, since RIT has so many computing-related degrees. I chose Computer Science since I could choose to take more specialized classes on top of the CS education, whereas in the other programs I couldn't generalize as much. I took many networking and cyber security classes, thus giving me two minors by the time I graduated. I stayed at RIT to do my Masters as well, completing what should've been a 6 year program in 4.5 years.

Experience

While at RIT, I interned at three different companies:

  • Moog — Cybersecurity Engineering Intern
  • Baxter, Inc. — R&D Software Engineering Co-op
  • Rivian & Volkswagen Group Technologies — Security Platform Intern

From these experiences, I started to specialize into cyber security. This follows my high school career, wherein I took many college-level networking classes, working on my CCNA. Sadly COVID hit before I could take the exam.

Outside of Work

I continued climbing and playing volleyball through my time at RIT. I joined Pandemonium Volleyball my third year. We competed in many regional tournaments, winning New York regionals my last year upstate. We also annually competed in USAV Adult Nationals, where I played both libero, DS, and opposite.

As an intern in the Bay in 2025, I fell in love with camping and the volleyball scene here. Over the course of twelve weeks, we went camping six different times, each more fun than the last. Since that summer, I've continued to camp whenever I can.
